The We CARE Village Orhanage is an outreach ministry of the Corinna United
Methodist Church. This outreach ministry was officially approved at the 2010 Annual
Conference of the New England Conference of the United Methodist Church as a
Conference Advance Special on Saturday June 19, 2010. Bishop Weaver has
appointed Pastor Grace Mazhandu as Director as an extension ministry.
The We CARE Village Orphanage is located in the
town of Norton, Zimbabwe, about 40 miles west of the captial of Harare, Zimbabwe.
Started by Pastor Grace Mazhandu, its director.
We CARE has received donations of durable goods such as clothing, books, medical
supplies and other essential items. In addition enough monetary donations have
arrived to ship a 40 foot Land/Sea container from Corinna, Maine, to Harare,
Zimbabwe. THANK YOU!!
Updated July 11, 2010!! Talked with Pastor
Grace and Rev. Dodie Sheffield on July 6, 2010. Learned that Pastor Grace,
Rev. Dodie Sheffield and husband Tom, and Rev. Naomi Sam-Kpakra all arrived
safely in Zimbabwe. Rev. Dodie Sheffield and Rev. Naomi Sam-Kpakra will be
in Zimbabwe for a month to help Pastor Grace Mazhandu get We CARE Village
started.
On Tuesday July 6, 2010 at 11AM the Land/Sea Container arrived at Corinna
United Methodist Church. It required 5 strong men from the shipping company,
plus many volunteers from the church 3 hours to load 130 drums, 150 boxes,
28 cases of dehyrated food, 20 cases of dried beans, and other miscellaneous
items. Temperatures exceeding 90 degrees Fahrenheit and humidity in the high
90's, created difficult working conditions to load the container.
In fact the container was jammed full. That was only possible because of the
generousity of local people and companies, and a lot of hard work by many
volunteers.
The Land/Sea container moved by road to Boston, where it will be loaded onto
a barge for transit to New York. Container departs New York City, New York on
July 15, 2010 on the MSC Carla container ship, MSC voyage S079. Container arrives
at Durban, South Africa on August 12, 2010 (28 days transit US to South Africa).
Container switches to smaller vessel for trip from Durban, South Africa, to Beira,
Mozambique. Container switches to rail to move from Beira, Mozambique, to Harare,
Zimbabwe. Scheduled arrival in Harare, Zimbabwe is September 10, 2010.
